Lake Louise

This is such a beautiful part of the world that it would be hard to have a bad review, but my experience was enhanced by our wonderful Tour Director, Clare. My favorites were Lake Louise and the experience of walking on the glaciers.

I enjoyed walking on the glacier, quite a unique experience. I appreciate the energy that Claire brought to the experience. I don't have any complaints - the tour is what I expected.

Loved all the aspects of this trip. The train gives you the experience of travel. Enjoyed the staff on the train and was pleased by the dining experience. Jasper Park was beautiful and was so fortunate to experience walking on the glacier. The beauty of the Rockies continued throughout the trip with the aqua waters and tall peaks. Although some days smoke filtered our views it was still amazing. The Fairmont properties, especially in Banff are exquisite with such stunning views. Our tour guide made everyone feel at home while sharing her knowledge of the area.

I can’t say enough positive about the Canadian Rockies tour! Clare Martin was an amazing leader…from the train experience all the way to Calgary. Hotel accommodations were superior. Meals were well planned and always delicious in wonderful venues. I was just not ready for the trip to end. It was fulfilled and beautiful memory packed.

I would not recommend the overnight train excursion. Train was old and although we expected a small room it was too small for two people. Toilet smelled. One dome car was definitely not enough for the amount of people on the train. Food was good. Tram ride in Jasper too crowded and the meal at the restaurant was very bad. The rest of the tour was fabulous. Our tour guide Roger Keyes was a wealth of knowledge and our bus driver Nell was very accommodating and friendly.

Our tour manager and bus driver were outstanding. We did not enjoy the train ride at all. We were sold on the fact that there was a viewing car which there was to be shared amongst 90 people. The only thing enjoyable was the food which was excellent. The trip up the mountain in Jasper was great with the exception of the food which was not good at all. The second leg of our trip was cancelled on the way home due to the worldwide internet issue, which was not the fault of Collette, however I was given the customer service number a week ago Monday which I called and was told that I would be given a link to address expenses incurred which I have not been provided to date.

This was a great trip very scenic always something to look forward to . Claire took excellent care of us and our luggage . She was always upbeat and a joy to have as our leader. The rafting and sky restaurant dinner were a couple of favorites. Heartbreaking that jasper was in the fire.. the train would have been better with cars like the rocky mountaineer to see more of the beautiful country

Great trip. Clare Martin was a great guide and made the tour that much more fun. The bus was comfortable & the driver, Elke was great. I think that the boat ride on the lake should have been included in the tour and not an extra. The only negative, to me, is that the "meet & greet" should have been on day 1. The first day, although we used the free time to walk around Vancouver, was not really part of our tour. We would have liked the opportunity to meet our fellow tour mates the day before.

Jasper was probably our favorite place to visit. Excellent tour guide and Nell the bus driver was fantastic i would highly recommend this tour

The Canadian Rockies by train was a fantastic tour with a variety of fun experiences and such beautiful vistas! The one day train ride was a unique experience with excellent service and meals. The towns of Jasper and Banff were fun to explore. Our entire group took the optional lake cruise to Spirit Island, which was a highlight for us, along with the amazing glacier walk. The Fairmont accommodations were luxurious and relaxing. We highly recommend this as a must-see destination.

This was a great trip! Our tour guide was one of the best I’ve ever had and went beyond her regular duty to ensure everyone was accommodated and happy. I enjoyed so much on this trip, but really liked the train ride, glacier and ranch visit.

The tour was very well organized, every detail to make it pleasant, comfortable, and interesting was carefully planned and attended to. Our tour guide was amazing - attentive to every detail and her enthusiasm made it fun.

Great scenery and wonderful towns visited. Too many stops at lakes, not enough waterfalls.

I had an excellent time and everything was done on time, and there were no glitches, my friend and I were thrilled

The views were breathtaking. I came home with a collection of stunning photos and videos. I loved living and sleeping on the train. Guests should understand that there is only one night and two partial days on the train during this tour. While the train was one of my personal favorite parts, not everyone was as enamored or slept as well as I did, so - for most of our group - the short time on the train was sufficient. This trip moves across a large territory: in only one location did we spend two nights in the same bed. Guests will be living out of their suitcases. For gluten-free visitors: Canada is a gluten-free-friendly place to visit. Collette had ensured that the establishments we visited as a group had gf options that were well marked. Additionally, when choosing restaurants on my own during free time, I was easily able to find places to eat where I had excellent gf options. For Collette: I recommend doing a better job preparing guests for their "free time." For example, at Granville Island, we had free time. Only when we gathered to get back on the bus after this time did we pass a display of free maps of the Island. The map was wonderfully detailed. It would have been helpful to provide this map to the guests the evening before so that we could have planned out our free time there. In another example, we had free time in two different towns (Japser and Banff) where we were dropped off downtown after touring on the bus. In other words, we had heavy backpacks with us. It would have been helpful to stop at the hotel so that we could drop off our heavy things before dropping us off downtown. Also, in Banff, WE discovered that the hotel provided a free bus pass for guests. Those should have automatically been provided to us upon arrival. It was an unnecessary stress for us.

Overall it was a great trip. There was some planning that could have been better -- didn't get to see Vancouver city. Some days we didn't get lunch or had 20 minutes to go somewhere and order and eat and be on the bus. No step on guides that knew the area (but bus driver knew more than tour guide sometimes) and the tour guide read from a paper.

Our tour guide Maryse was amazing! She was organized, friendly, and very accomodating to everyone's needs. She made the trip wonderful!

A little too much free time

Difficulty finding food appropriate to my needs.

Everything except no a/c at Lake Louise was as or more than expected! Tyler was amazing with everything he shared with us! We loved the 'little surprises Tyler would throw in! Everything we did and experienced was exceptional!!!!

I liked everything, but the overnight room on the train. It was terrible. Too small and should not of had bunk beds. Bunk beds for older people doesn't work. Very dangerous!! Bathroom was way too small. Will never sleep over on a train again. Everything else on the train was fine.

Had to miss the first day due to airline delay. In future make sure you are not on the last flight to the final destination.

The airline scheduling was poor with short connection in DEN. Nobody makes a 45-minute connection anymore. We missed our connection and the first day of the tour plus hotel stay.

Everything was done for us. Daniel, the tour leader, handed us our hotel keys while we were comfortably seated on the bus. Daniel picked exciting activities for us.

The whole trip was outstanding. The tour manager was a big part in making the trip so enjoyable. The only negative was the first night on the train. having such a small room. It was like sleeping in a coffin.

The scenery on this trip was spectacular. Banff and the surrounding area is one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. The train ride was also a very unique experience and a perfect way to see the landscape in a quiet and relaxed setting.

We had excellent accommodations and the restaurants were very nice. Staying at the Banff Chateau was outstanding. I think having the gondola ride in Banff would have been better than the helicopter excursion, especially since no one did that ride.

The places selected and the times allocate were excellent. Our tour guide was highly knowledgeable, caring and had a contagious smile. In addition, the tour bus driver was fantastic. Always willing to help.

I believe the title of tour is a little miss leading. Thank goodness we were not on the train for week it was only one day. That is plenty of time on the train. How Collette set it up was perfect. Little train, little bus, a little walking and a little by boat ( with add on). Thanks Collette

Seeing all the beautiful mountains, glacier, staying in Westin Hotels and the fabulous Fairmont Hotels, loved Banff, Calgary, everyone on bus we meet were nice and friendly, over all a once in a life time trip.

With the exception of the Sawridge Lodge accommodations were stellar... Didn't enjoy the gem show much...too much of a sales pitch there. Our first driver Doug, was not on par with Collette...seemed like he was new; polite but didnt go over and above. But the drier Brent, who showed up last full day was excellent and provided superior service! Most favorable moments were...Julie Rolleman...exceptional!!! And the Glacier and train ride!

Banff Springs Hotel and its aquatic center

This was our first time on a tour. For us, it was a trip of a lifetime. All of the employees from Collette made everything flow seamlessly, and the weather was perfect. Beautiful trip, great accommodations and great food.

The tour guides and drivers were very good

The views were fantastic! We saw bears, big horn sheep, elk, and deer during the trip. There was one beautiful view after another! The hotels in Lake Louise and Banff were 5 star!

The only thing I wouldn't rate 5 stars is the train accommodations. However, the food on the train was fantastic, as it was whenever we had an included meal on the tour. Most of all, I loved seeing all of the beautiful, snow-capped mountains from Jaspar till the ranch outside of Calgary.

The train ride was not very scenic or comfortable. But the coach ride from Jasper through Lake Louise and to Banf was spectacular at this time of year with snow falls alternating with beautiful blue skies and snow-covered mountains and landscapes.

Unfortunately, least favorite experience was the train ride. Could have done without it.

The scenery was spectacular, loved the variety of areas visited & nice mix of scheduled and free time. Moraine Lake was so beautiful that everyone thought our photos looked fake! We climbed the spot to get the best view and were so overcome at the beauty it took your breath away! Sleeping on a train was a once fun & unique experience.

It was an excellent trip and very well planned.

My most memorable experiences were the stay at Lake Louise and the visit to the ranch after leaving Banff.

The logistics were good upon arrival and departure. We appreciated Collette Compass and Collette Talk. Our side trip to Victoria was good. However the disappointing experience on the train was a bad start to a mediocre tour. The train was uncomfortable and did not compare well with train travel we have experienced. We were not seeking a ride on a 1950’s train, perhaps we didn’t read the promotional material carefully enough. We enjoyed Jasper, Lake Louise and Bannff and the ranch although we were given more time at tourist shops than we needed. Overall the scenery was good. The food was outstanding everywhere. The hotels were comfortable. The bus driver was competent and polite however we did not appreciate his off color stories. The tour director certainly knew the area well but she didn’t see with the same “first time eyes” we did. She did a good job in organizing and keeping everything on track. She was clearly at a disadvantage after the train ride because everyone we spoke with viewed it as a bad start. Overall we’ve experienced better and worse tours with Collette. Some tours with other companies were outstanding. We will look around more before we use Collette again.

wonderful experience, fun trip

VERY Wonderful, as expected!!

David took excellent care of all of us, and looked out for everyone. His knowledge of our destinations and their history and culture was comprehensive. Weather and train schedule presented a few challenges for him (totally out of his control, of course) and he went above and beyond to provide excellent service and other options as available. Pete, our driver, was a delight and a fountain of information as well.

Scenery was fantastic, lots of wild life sightings, and really enjoyed the final day at the ranch in Calgary (beautiful location, wagon ride, tour of their horse barn, and line-dancing lessons).

This was the best tour experience we've had, so far. My most memorable experience was climbing up the moraine to get an excellent view of the Lake.

Favorite moment was waking up in Banff on day two, to the beautiful snowfall on the trees & grounds. But hard to say just one moment, as everything was just beautiful & spectacular.

All portions of the tour were very well done and made for a very memorable trip.

Lake Louise was my favorite spot as well as Lake Maligne.

The train was old and it was not a restful nights sleep. Not up to our past experience on a Canadian train (business class). Quality of accommodations varied from good to excellent.

Banff. Well the scenery was nice and the room change to the main building made all the difference Excellent driving by Benil and excellent tour guiding by Julie. We did enjoy the gem store.

Bus driver from Vancouver to Victoria delayed our arrival by picking up others not on the Colette tour and proceeded to give us his tour so we weren’t able to explore Victoria. Train was very noisy and had poor ventilation. Colette advertised trip as a train tour but only one night on train.

Favorite was the glacial lakes!!! Worst was the hotel in Jasper... record heat and no A/C. I understand it is seldom needed, but still a very bad experience. NO SLEEP!

Just not at all what we expected. However, the tour guide Brad was amazing. Collette put him in a bad position. Just about everyone we spoke with on the trip expected something different!

There was supposed to be a train portion of the tour. There was no train portion. For me, the train ride was going to be the highlight. Had I known in advance that there would be no train ride, I would have booked with a different company.

I really liked the Calgary Stampede. So much fun!

The people that do colette tours. They have travelled, but want someone to show the way. Top choice on this tour was the raft ride. Top place was the stay at the Fairmont on gorgeous Lake Louise.

Loved the lakes - all beautiful. And really enjoyed Fairmont Banff Springs.

The trip was breathtaking! We were able to visit and see things that would probably not be able if we had taken the trip on our own.

White water rafting on glacial melt.

The chateau at lake Louise. The setting was fantastic and the view from the bedroom window was spectacular. The food and service was first class. The downside was that we could not stay longer

All of the above. The dinner we had at the Lintel in Vancouver, which was an emergency put together, was fabulous. The Banff Springs Hotel is wonderful. Itinerary was very good with lots to see. Loved the float trip and the ride up the skylift. Catherine Martin was excellent.

A day in Vancouver, overnight on the train from Vancouver to Jasper, the beautiful Icefields Parkway, Hotel stays at The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise and the Fairmont Banff Springs, incredibly beautiful scenery, and wildlife sightings!

Everything was great but could have skipped the very long train trip.

Except for the train ride everything else was great.

Karina the tour guide was exceptional she was very informative and made the tour even more special. So many favourite moments including spotting a bear but drinking rye whisky on the glacier is unforgettable

Canadian Rockies are beautiful, particularly liked Lake Louise.

Loved the sights and beautiful scenery. Hotels were top notch. The overnight train trip was an experience we will never forget. Our tour guide, Danielle was wonderful and full of trivia and information!

The only downside was not enough time at some destinations. There were stops on the tour that could have been eliminated allowing more time at some of the nicer places. There were many highlights, the fact that it snowed in the Rockies. The night on the Canadian Train was great fun and our stay at the Banff Springs Hotel was out of this world.

Train was late arriving so we had to wait at the station. Train accommodations are not good. Crampted, narrow compartment. Cleaning solution used in the compartment was overpowering Hotels were great.

The ice fields, views of the mountains and lakes. The Banff Springs Hotel and the Fairmont Lake Louise were wonderful so was the food!

Could have been more organized and free time for shopping

The hotel in jasper was awful. The "Diner's Choice" was not really our choice but had to be chosen while on the bus sight and menu unseen. Then when we arrived at the banff restaurant we had a special tour menu and not the restaurant menu. The train was late, the food was mediocre and we had to sleep in bunk beds - that fact should have been explained in the brochure.

I enjoyed it very much. I think the overnight accommodations on the train could have been explained more clearly, since as seniors it was challenging to be in such a confined space and have to climb up to a bunk bed.

everything extraordinary from the accomodations to the food to the excursions and scenery...tremendous value. Also the tour director ******** was 5 star...so organized,knowledgable and personable. Our driver ****** a very proficient coach operator

Columbia Icefields walk on Glacier was spectacular along with Fairmont hotel stays at Lake Louise and Banff.

The train trip was not what we expected. But the fact it was only one night made it a fun adventure.

Well organized, we had no worries about anything! The tour covered a lot of places, accommodations were great and great choices of restaurants. We enjoyed every minute of it! This was our first trip with Collette and we are already planning our next trip.

Single accommodations on the train were not satisfactory, I wish an upgrade had been offered at booking.

Not sure we had a favorite experience because we had a good time on the whole trip. Enjoyed the overnight train and Taking the Glacier buggy to the Glacier and being able to walk on it was something I had not done before. The rafting trip we ended up floating down the glacial river in rain, thunder, pouring rain, gusting wind and sleet. The weather was horrible BUT everyone laughed and joked. And when our joyride was over and the bus driver thought of bringing towels to dry off the rain stopped and the rest of the day it was sunny.

The hotel in Banff was great. The train ride was great.

We enjoyed the Rafting trip because we never thought we could do it. My husband has some difficulty walking but the rafting crew were very helpful getting him in and out of the raft. The scenery was breath taking.

I became fatigued buy having to move hotels so frequently.

Loved Vancouver. The train was way too challenging and not much scenery. Could have skipped the ice field - came home with the worst cold of my life. High light of trip - Lake Louise - could have stayed another day. Not much to do in Banff or Calgary

The train ride was an experience and we are glad we did take the train. However one night and day was plenty for the experience. The food was very good on the train. If I were going on a train for more than 1 day or 1 night I would like an upgraded berth.

There were too many great moments to point any one out!

Our tour manager was phenomenal. He brought the Canadian Rockies to life for us with the information and stories he shared. He was always ready to offer an alternative when schedules has to be changed. The Westin and Fairmont properties were spectacular. The accommodations, service, locations, food, etc, were all excellent. Accommodations in Jasper were somewhat disappointing in comparison. We would have rathered have stayed at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. All tour inclusions were wonderful with the exception of the ranch. This was a nice stop for lunch but we would have fathered have skipped the activities there and spent more time exploring Lake Louise.

The hotel at Lake Louise was understaffed, thus we had to wait 2 hours to get a room. The hotel was excellent once we were in our room. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable of the areas we covered, however, she was a little terse with some answers.

Best was the boat cruise in Lake Maligne. Beautiful and serene. The walking on the Icefield Glacier and bus ride in the ice explorer was not as satisfactory. The Athabasca river water rafting in the heart of Canada's Jasper National Park was quite fun.

This trip met and exceeded my expectations. I traveled alone and the rest of the tour group was very friendly and welcoming. our tour guide was a wonderful tour manager. Loved her sense of humor, she was so stylish and presented an organized, informative tour.

Jasper was my favorite place on the Canadian tour. It's the most beautiful place I have ever seen!

Lake Louise , we could have spent another day.

This was an exceptionally excellent tour. Our tour guide made the trip for what it was with all of his insight in the area. The scenery was breathtaking every day. And the train ride was like an added bonus. The day at the Calgary Stampede and Chuck Wagon Races finished off with the evening entertainment was definitely a highlight. I plan to take a group in the future. Highly recommend this tour.

train was the least favorite part of the tour. I traveled with my two granddaughters for their graduation gift. Their choice and they were happy, so therefore so was I.

Did not like the train at all, rooms were to small. Couldn't move around. Had to take turns in the dome car. Would not recommend the train at all.

The itinerary was excellent. Choice of hotels and other amenities was excellent. Bus driver was careful, courteous and fun. Tour manager was generally good, but on occasion gave incorrect information. When the hotel that we had been scheduled into was suddenly unavailable, Collette did an excellent job of providing alternative accommodations. While the hotel wasn't quite as nice as the one originally scheduled, the little added perks (extra stop at Natural Bridge and extra gondola ride) certainly made up for any minor inconvenience.

All the places we went were great. I especially liked Banff. Staying at the Banff Springs Resort (castle) was my favorite. The place is so big and beautiful with so much history. I loved the town. Great places to shop too. Very relaxing too since we did not have to drive and handle our luggage.

The beauty of the glacier feed lakes were amazing. Loved the whole experience. Also the rainbow with the waterfall. Loved seeing the black bear and cubs, grizzly bear and other wildlife. Beautiful waterfalls. Loved the great food, hotels and the tour guide.

The train was a great experience and the tour manager made it fun. As a package tour it was fantastic. From Vancouver to Calgary and everything in between it has been one of my best trips ever. I live in Sedona AZ which is a GREAT place to visit. Trip was a great value.

My most memorable experience when the tour bus parked so we could observe bears cubs climbing up and down a tree.

The favorite experience was the overnight train ride from Vancouver to Jasper and walking on the glaciers.

The scenery, the tour mgr., the fine hotels all made this one of my best travel experiences. The sleep over on train was an adventure, & the first time for me. We were fortunate in that a blizzard two days before arrival blanketed snow all over the mountains, which made it more picturesque. Jasper was outstandingly beautiful. The lakes, rushing rivers and glaciers were awesome. Lake Louise was exquisite in every detail. The hotel was elegant, the meals top notch and the service outstanding. Banff also provided the elegance and grand scenery. I've been to Alaska, but I would rate this trip just as high in natural beauty and splendor.

I had always wanted to go the the Canadian Rockies and Collette made this a memorable trip. We stayed in 5 star hotels, had delicious meals, etc. Every little detail was handled by Collette and our EXCELLENT tour manager. I especially liked Lake Louise and also going out onto the Columbia Glacier. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone contemplating visiting the Canadian Rockies.

Our driver,Roy, was also excellent. He and Sara proved to be a caring, fun knowledgeable team.

All of the hotels I stayed at were superb. Geoff the tour manager was excellent. Bruce our driver on the coach was very courteous and helpful. The best moment for me was seeing three black bear youngsters.

Chris was very kind especially when one-third of our group became ill. He was not as well versed with the local as the previous tour manage. The coach driver was excellent and very knowledgeable helped a lot. .

We specifically booked this tour for my 30 year retirement celebration to visit Lake Louise and the Canadian Rockies. The brochure did not disclose that Lake Louise was frozen this time of year and that many of the roads are closed and activities that were normally a part of the tour could not be done because the lakes were frozen or not open yet for the season. If we had known, we would have booked a later date. The tour guide and locals along the way commented on normally this time of year it is snowing and very cold and the weather we had was phenomenal for this time of year. I shudder to think how it would have been if the weather had been normal. Because there was snow everywhere, you could not get the full appreciation of the color of the icefields, Lake Louise or any of the other scenery because it was all white until we got to Banff. It was 60 degrees the day we went to the dude ranch but they did not tell you that all the animals were gone for the winter and they were not open to the public yet. The brochure said the hayride was weather permitting but even with 60 degree weather the only animal on the ranch this time of year was the owner's dog. The tour director did a nice job of trying to do what we could considering the conditions out of his control. We enjoyed the train ride, the hotel in Banff, the river raft trip (although cold), the helicopter ride, the hotels were nice, the food good, and exploring Vancouver. We were extremely disappointed that we paid $200 extra for a Lake view at Lake Louise to view a frozen lake. The path around the lake was not open due to snow thus the tea house was closed. There is not much to do at Chateau Lake Louise with a frozen lake. The issue with the information not being disclosed was not the tour director's fault. I believe that Colette should be more forthcoming and footnote those areas where lakes are frozen and conditions are still winter. If you were looking for a winter vacation, you would have loved this. We saved our money for what should have been the trip of a life time and were extremely disappointed. We did our research and knew the weather was going to be cool but supposedly sunny but we never imagined frozen waterfalls, lakes, closed roads, closed restrooms on the highway, and snow. The only other footnote in the brochure was for breakfast at Maligne Lake being offered only Jun 1-Sep 30. If you want the full experience of this trip, you must go later in the season. As you can see from my photo, not the $200 view from the brochure we were expecting.
